If you think of sushi when you hear "traditional Japanese food," then Tokyo will surprise you. Food in Japan is much more than just sushi, making food one of Tokyo's biggest attractions.

Since Tokyo is a port city, the food understandibly includes a lot of seafood. For example, dashi (fish stock) is the base of many dishes, and aonori (dried seaweed flakes) is a common condiment. If seafood isn't your thing, then there are still many other dishes that aren't necessarily seafood, such as okonomiyaki, yakitori, yakisoba, tempura and katsu.

In general, a Japanese meal usually consists of a large variety of small dishes, including rice. Green tea is also served with every Japanese meal.
