Do you know the city of "Shimonoseki"? It is located in the far west of mainland Japan in Yamaguchi prefecture. The city is only 75 minutes from Hiroshima station. From long ago, Shimonoseki has engaged in exchanges with Asian countries as crossroads. Shimonoseki Port International terminal acts as an international gateway for ocean travel to Busan, South Korea, Quidao, and Tycoon, China.
Surrounded by the Sea of Japan and the Seto Inland Sea, Shimonoseki is famous for its seafood. In Karato fish market, you can taste a variety of fresh seafood. It is also a good place to try to eat puff fish. From Friday to Sunday is a Sushi buffet.

Shimonoseki is also a city of history. Many important pivotal historic events have taken place. Akama Shrine is related to the famous 1185 Danno-ura Gempei battle. Overlooking Danno-ura Suitengu is made to recreate the spectacular image of the dragons’ palace. Mimosuso River Park is the site of the final Gempei battlefield, and you can see Choshu clan’s cannons during the last days of the Tokugawa Shogunate, Edo era. Plastered walls in Chofu area are reminiscent of an age-old castle town. It emanates the very essence of Japan with its many locations still standing today eliciting a slower passage of time within the area.
